Meet Certified Mediator and Divorce Attorney Joerika Stitt

Joerika Stitt, J.D., M.S.W., is an Illinois attorney, Certified Mediator, and Certified Collaborative Divorce Attorney whose practice focuses on helping families resolve divorce without unnecessary conflict.

Through Joerika Stitt Esquire, LLC, she represents clients in uncontested divorce, mediation, and collaborative divorce matters. Her approach to family law, however, began long before she became an attorney.

From Social Work to Law

Before entering the legal profession, Joerika earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and spent years working in crisis intervention, psychiatric care, addiction services, and other settings serving individuals and families during the most difficult periods of their lives.

That experience shaped the way she approaches legal problems today.

“Social work taught me to look beyond the immediate problem and understand what is happening with the whole person and the family. I carried that perspective with me into law.”

After law school, Joerika worked in legal aid, handling family law, domestic violence, and housing matters. She later practiced contested family law, where she saw firsthand the financial and emotional toll prolonged litigation takes on families.

At the same time, she was navigating a lengthy divorce of her own.

Together, those professional and personal experiences led her to reconsider the kind of family law practice she wanted to build.

Choosing a Different Way to Practice

Joerika began pursuing mediation and collaborative divorce training, and ultimately made a deliberate decision to move her private practice away from contested divorce litigation.

Today, her firm is centered on helping clients resolve family matters through agreement whenever possible.

“Divorce is already one of the most difficult transitions a family can experience. I wanted my practice to help people move through that transition with clarity and dignity rather than contribute to unnecessary conflict.”

-Joerika Stitt, Certified Mediator, and Certified Collaborative Divorce Attorney

That philosophy shaped a practice built around uncontested divorce, mediation, and collaborative divorce—approaches that give families a greater opportunity to participate in the

resolution of their own cases.

Joerika is also interested in using technology and alternative legal-service models to make the

court system easier to navigate.

She developed My Family Court Navigator™, a structured system designed to help eligible

individuals move through uncontested family-law matters more efficiently by organizing information, screening cases, and simplifying document preparation.

For Joerika, the goal is not simply efficiency. It is access.

“There are people who need legal help but cannot afford traditional full-service representation. I believe lawyers should continue finding responsible ways to make legal services more understandable and accessible.”

Her work reflects an ongoing interest in developing legal services that meet clients at different

price points and levels of need while preserving meaningful attorney involvement.

Finding Community through ADN

As Joerika narrowed her practice to amicable divorce work, she also recognized that she

needed a professional community of lawyers and divorce professionals who approach the work

the same way.

That search led her to The Amicable Divorce Network.

“Much of my professional network had been built around traditional litigation. As I changed the direction of my practice, I wanted to connect with professionals who also believe divorce does not have to become a battle.”

For Joerika, ADN is an opportunity to build relationships with attorneys, mediators, therapists, financial professionals, and other practitioners who can work together to help families resolve

divorce more constructively.

Her long-term vision is straightforward: build a family-law practice in which excellent legal representation and reduced conflict are not competing goals.

We welcome Joerika Stitt to The Amicable Divorce Network and look forward to the perspective and experience she brings to our growing community.
